A Louisiana state trooper was shot in the head Sunday during a traffic stop in the Lake Charles area, according to officials.

A gunman who critically wounded a Louisiana State Police trooper near Lake Charles Sunday afternoon was tackled by passing motorists who stopped to help, according to authorities.
Trooper Steven Vincent stopped to check on a suspected impaired driver stuck in a ditch along Highway 14 in southwest Louisiana only to be shot in the head during the ensuing confrontation, Sgt. James Anderson told the Daily News.
“It was pandemonium out here,” Anderson said.
LOUISIANA STATE POLICE arrested Kevin Daigle, 54, in suspicion of shooting Louisiana State Police Trooper Steven Vincent in the head.
At least one good Samaritan pulled over to help the 43-year-old trooper and used his radio to call authorities. The motorists then detained the suspect on their own with Vincent’s handcuffs.
